Expanded Field takes its name from a foundational idea in contemporary art history: that sculpture extends beyond the object to engage architecture, landscape, and the public realm. This thinking defines our practice. We see public art as an integrated part of the built environment, working collaboratively across disciplines to create place-specific works that strengthen identity, enrich civic life, and contribute lasting cultural value.

Christina Hirukawa is the Co-Founder and Lead Consultant of Expanded Field. With over 15 years of experience, she advises developers, municipalities, architects, and institutions on public art strategy, cultural planning, and artist-led placemaking. She is also a Certified Art Appraiser, bringing expertise in the valuation and stewardship of significant art collections.
Holding a BFA from Concordia University and an MA in Art History from the University of Glasgow, Christina’s practice bridges contemporary art, architecture, and city building. Her work is driven by a belief that public art can strengthen identity, enrich the public realm, and create lasting cultural value when thoughtfully integrated into the built environment.
Throughout her career, Christina has collaborated with leading developers, corporations, and institutions, including Deloitte, PwC, EY, Microsoft Canada, and Dentons. She is recognized for bringing together artistic vision, strategic thinking, and practical delivery to create meaningful public art that is both culturally significant and enduring.
